Kilkenny Waterford Boundary Review - Press Release
Kilkenny County Council advises the commencement of public consultation in respect of the Kilkenny Waterford County Boundary Review. The Boundary Committee are required to examine the existing County Boundary between Kilkenny and Waterford and to make recommendations in respect of that boundary that the Committee considers necessary.
Commenting on the Review Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Mary Hilda Cavanagh, outlined 'I know I speak for all Elected Members when I state that Kilkenny County Council has supported and will continue to support the development of South Kilkenny, Waterford City and the South East Region. There are numerous examples to illustrate the effective working relationship between the relevant Local Authority, state agencies, businesses and community groups. Changes to existing County Boundaries are not necessary, will prove divisive and will not be conducive to ongoing effective and convenient local government'.
Submissions on the Boundary Review can be made until 15th January 2016. A website, www.waterfordboundaryreview.ie, has been established which provides information on the Boundary Review and guidance for the making of submissions. Submissions can be made directly to the website or, alternatively, by post to The Secretariat, Waterford Boundary Review, c/o Kilkenny County Council, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny.
Councillor Pat Dunphy, Chairman of the Piltown Municipal District Committee, noted that 'people and communities do not want changes that impact on the identity, heritage and culture of individual counties. The area of interest for this Boundary Review has an area of 6920 acres and a population of 7000 and extends from Aglish, Kilmacow to Rathpatrick, Slieverue. It is crucial that the people of County Kilkenny engage in the consultation process so as to protect the individual identity, heritage and culture of County Kilkenny.'
