Illegal Dumping Prosecution

PRESS RELEASE 23rd October 2009

An expensive waste disposal lesson was learnt by Mr. Samuel A. Green of Kilbline, Bennettsbridge, Co. Kilkenny recently at Kilkenny District Court. Mr Green pleaded guilty to illegally dumping a bag of rubbish at Parliament Street, Kilkenny, on or before 26th March 2009.
The City's Litter Warden reported that on the 26th March 2009 there were a number of illegally dumped bags of refuse outside Hackett's Bookmakers, Parliament Street, Kilkenny. Evidence linking Mr. Green was found in one of the refuse bags which lead to his court appearance.
Judge William Hartnett convicted Mr. Samuel A. Green under the Litter Pollution Acts 1997-2009. Mr. Green was fined €200 with €374 costs. "Fly tipping is not tolerated by the Councils of the County and City of Kilkenny. Cases will be pursued vigorously as refuse disposed irresponsibly is a blight on the natural landscape and also poses as a potential health hazard" commented Bernadette Moloney, Environmental Awareness Officer with Kilkenny County Council.
