Over €2.5 million invested in Community Facilities in County Kilkenny
County Kilkenny has witnessed a major improvement in community facilities as a result of the recent Community and Cultural Facilities Capital Scheme formerly known as the Recreational Capital Fund (RCF) grant scheme.
The Kilkenny Local Authorities scheme has been run since 2006. The scheme, funded through the development contribution monies overall objective was to respond to the need for better community, recreational and cultural facilities for groups within the community and voluntary sector through the provision of a capital grant.
The type of projects eligible for support included development of open spaces- walks/parkland, playgrounds, sports facilities, arts projects and projects that conserve the built and natural heritage of the county.
TheCommunity and Cultural Facilities Capital Scheme represented 50 per centof the total project cost up to a maximum of €100,000. Projects awarded funding were required to have a minimum project cost of €20,000 with 20 per cent of the project cost had to be sourced locally.
Applicant organisations operated from a policy of inclusion and were required to have a recognised legal structure operating on a ‘not for profit’ basis. Applicant groups also demonstrated the capacity to manage and operate the proposed facilities.
Staff of the Community and Enterprise Department of Kilkenny County Council supported groups and communities throughout the process.
