AN ADDITIONAL €100,000 FOR IMPROVED
ROAD SAFETY IN RAPID AREAS IN KILKENNY
As part of the ongoing investment into RAPID areas The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Mr Éamon Ó Cuív TD and the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr Dick Roche TD, recently announced an additional resources round under the RAPID Traffic Measures Scheme 2006/2007. These small-scale works aim to improve road safety in RAPID areas.
The Kilkenny Local Authorities have liased with each RAPID Area Implementation Team to agree the precise nature and location of the works to be undertaken. Works such as the provision of speed ramps, pedestrian lights, dishing and improvement of footpaths and road improvement works are being funded under this Scheme.
€4.5 million has been made available for the 45 RAPID areas under the scheme, which is being funded on a 50/50 basis by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and the Local Authorities through the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
