Roads Update Sunday 10/01/10 at 9.30a.m.
The objective, in severe weather conditions, of keeping the priority routes open to traffic has been achieved to date. To enable this to continue will require selective use of remaining salt stocks taking account of the demand that priority routes place on these stocks. Priority must be given to National and Regional routes.
The M8 was salted on the evening of 09/01/10 between the hours of 5pm and 11pm.
National Routes N9, N10, N24, N25, N29, N76, N77, N78 were all gritted on the evening of 09/01/10 between 5pm and 11pm. Please note that these routes, in light of worsening weather conditions are now deemed passable with extreme care.
Regional Routes R700 (Kilkenny/New Ross), R702 (Gowran/Goresbridge), R703 (Thomastown/Graiguenamanagh), R705 (The Stripe via Graiguenamanagh), R695 (Ballykeefe/Kilcreene), R699 (Knocktopher/Kilmaganny), R435 (Johnstown/Rathdowney), R502 (Johnstown/Templetuohy), R694 (Castlecomer/Ballyragget), R704 (Mullinavat/New Ross), R698 (Owing/Windgap) have also been gritted in the afternoon or evening of 09/01/10. Regional roads are largely passable with extreme care but motorists are advised, if possible, to avoid the R703, R705 and R698.
Local roads are extremely dangerous and only essential journeys should be considered with Regional/National roads being prioritised as part of route selection.
Kilkenny Local Authorities wish to advise motorists that only essential road journeys should be undertaken today, Sunday 10/10/01. Where journeys have to be undertaken motorists should give preference to the National/Regional Road Network, taking account of specific information with respect to such roads, even if the selection of such routes creates longer journeys than normal.
