Information Evening

A Draft Local Area Plan for Castlecomer was published in October 2017. Proposed Material Alterations to the Draft Plan are now on public display until Friday, 2nd of March 2018.


An Information Evening will be held on Tuesday 20th of February 2018 in Castlecomer Library from 5pm-8pm. The purpose of the Information Evening is to provide an opportunity for the public to view the Proposed Material Alterations to the Draft Local Area Plan and speak with a member of the planning team in advance of making submissions. All are welcome, no appointment is necessary.

Notice of Proposed Material Alterations to the Castlecomer Draft Local Area Plan

Kilkenny County Council are in the process of making a Local Area Plan for Castlecomer and propose to make a number of alterations to the previously published Draft Plan.

Having carried out screenings of the Proposed Material Alterations, the Council has determined that Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA) are not required for the Proposed Material Alterations.

The proposed alterations may be inspected from Friday, 2nd of February to Friday, 2nd of March 2018 (both dates inclusive but excluding bank holidays) at the following locations:

- Online at http://consult.kilkenny.ie/
- The Planning Department, Kilkenny County Council, John Street, Kilkenny during office opening hours of 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm Monday to Friday.
- Castlecomer Library, during their opening hours

Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed material alterations, or to the information on the likely significant effects on the environment of implementing the alterations will be taken into consideration before the making of any alteration. Submissions may be made:

- in writing to Denis Malone, Senior Planner, Planning Department, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny

Hard copies of the Proposed Material Alterations will be available for purchase from the Planning Department, Kilkenny County Council, for the following prices:
- €5 for Proposed Material Alterations to the LAP
- €2 for SEA Screening
- €2 for AA Screening
Please note that all submissions will be made available for public viewing on the Council's consultation website during the plan-making period.

Castlecomer Draft Local Area Plan 2017

Notice is hereby given that Kilkenny County Council proposes to make a Local Area Plan (LAP) for Castlecomer. A Draft LAP has been prepared.

As regards the Draft LAP, the Council has determined that a Strategic Environmental Assessment is not required. It has also been determined that an Appropriate Assessment pursuant to Article 6 (3) and (4) of the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC and the European Communities (Birds & Natural Habitats) Regulations 2011 is not required.


A copy of the Draft LAP, the Strategic Environmental Assessment screening report, the Appropriate Assessment screening report and the Strategic Flood Risk Assessment, may be inspected from Friday 6th October 2017 to Friday 17th November 2017 (both dates inclusive but excluding bank holidays) at the following locations:

- Planning Department, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny from 9am to 1pm and 2 - 4pm Monday to Friday.
- Castlecomer Area Office, from 9am to 1pm and 2 - 5pm Monday to Friday.

Submissions or observations will be taken into consideration in deciding upon the Draft Plan. Children, or groups or associations representing the interests of children, are entitled to make submissions or observations in this regard.


Submissions or observations in respect of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Screening report, Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening report and Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) made to the planning authority within the period specified will also be taken into consideration.

- €25 for draft LAP
- €20 for SFRA
- €10 for AA and SEA screening

Notice of Public Consultation meeting and pre draft Submissions period

Reminder Closing Date for submissions 5pm Friday 18th November 2016

The Castlecomer Local Area Plan 2009 is currently under review. A public meeting was held in the Community Hall, Castlecomer on the 2nd November 2016.

You can make a submission or observation regarding the review of the Castlecomer Local Area Plan, in writing, to the Director of Services, Planning, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny from 19th October 2016 until 5 pm on Friday 18th November 2016 or you can make submissions by email to ourplan@kilkennycoco.ie or online at consult.kilkenny.ie Please note all submissions will be made available for public viewing on our website.

Notice of Public Consultation Meeting

Kilkenny County Council intends to review the current Castlecomer Local Area Plan and prepare a new Plan for Castlecomer. This Plan will outline policies and objectives for the proper planning and sustainable development of the area for the period 2017 to 2023.

To assist in the preparation of this Local Area Plan, a public consultation meeting will be held in the Community Hall, Kilkenny Street, Castlecomer on Wednesday 2nd of November, 2016 at 7.30p.m.

Residents and all interested parties are encouraged to take part in this consultation process which will be an important first step in the making of the new Plan.

In addition to this public consultation meeting you can make a submission or observation regarding the review of the Castlecomer Local Area Plan, in writing, to the Director of Services, Planning, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny from 19th October 2016 until 5 pm on Friday 18th November 2016 or you can make submissions by email to ourplan@kilkennycoco.ie or online at consult.kilkenny.ie Please note all submissions will be made available for public viewing on our website.
