Flooding Press Release Update 2:45pm 30th December

PRESS RELEASE KILKENNY COUNTY COUNCIL -

2.45P.M. Wednesday 30TH December 2015

Road Closure Updates:

The following roads have been closed:

R704 from Mullinavat to New Ross
(alternative route via the N25)

R700 from New Ross to Kilkenny
(alternative route via the N25 and M9 Motorway)

R448 from Paulstown to Knocktopher
(alternative route is R711, the N10 to Danesfort -i.e. the old main route from Paultown to Kilkenny City Ring Road to Danesfort)

Rock Road Inistioge is also closed

Main Street Graignamanagh - no through traffic - local diversions in place

Thomastown - no through traffic - local diversions in place

Circular Road Kilkenny currently closed but is expected to open at 4.30p.m.

Numerous minor road closures all of which have been sign posted.

Sand Bags

Sand bags are being made available at:
Thomastown Fire Station
The Green, Inistioge
Bennettsbridge - Car park opposite Church
Graignamanagh - Fair Green Carpark

The Council is taking extra supplies of sand and extra sand bags will be filled and dispatched this evening to Thomastown, Inistioge and Graignamanagh.

River Levels and safety alert

River levels on the River Nore have peaked in Kilkenny City and there are not any significant flooding issues. The River Nore is expected to peak in Thomastown at approx. 6.00p.m. this evening and in Inistioge at approx. 7.30p.m. which will also co-incide with a high tide. The public are asked to stay away from flooded areas and from river banks .

Our message to people in low lying areas at risk of flooding to vacate their premises until the flood levels recede has been taken on board and a number of people have been assisted in vacating their premises.
