Update Issued at 17.00pm on Friday 1st January 2016

Given the current weather forecast for the area, Kilkenny County Council advises that flash flooding is highly likely throughout the County over the next 24 hours.
The public are being asked to stay away from the flooded areas including unprotected river banks & quays and to take measures to protect their property
Motorists are urged to exercise caution on all roads when driving and to obey any warning signs that have been put in place and to slow down and stay safe, and to avoid unnecessary travel.
Kilkenny County Council has put in place mitigation measures and a full list of actions will be available via the Council's website, social media and local radio, in addition to the deployment of local resources.

 

Flooding Alert-

Whilst flooding could occur throughout the County, the following areas are likely to experience flooding:

Graiguenamanagh: Duiske River
As of 16.45pm on 1st January flooding is imminent. Sandbags will be available at the Fairview Car Park
Freshford : Nuenna River
An extra 300 sandbags are being provided and will be available at the Fire station in Freshford.

Thomastown: River Nore
Sandbags are available at Cloghabrody

Inistioge: River Nore
Sandbags available at the lay-by on the Kilkenny side of the village

Callan: Kings River
Sandbags will be available at the Fire station in Callan.

Bleach Road: River Nore
This area is seriously flooded and the road remains closed

 

Road Closures


The following Road Closures remain in place:
Coolnahaw - back road from Mullinavat to Thomastown
The Annamult Road (Bennettsbridge to Ennisnag) remains closed,
the Ardaloo Road (Freshford Road to Ballyragget Road),
Bleach Rd near Kilkenny City
LS 5612 Crosspatrick to Templemore
R 639 (Old N8) is down to single lane traffic at Coolnacrutta and at the Beggars Cross - VMS signage in place
Also
N76 Flooding at Ballybur Creamery, Cuffesgrange, is passable with care.
The road from Waterford to Carrick On Suir is severely flooded at Aglish/Curraghamartin and at the Carrick On Suir side of Mooncoin - The road is down to a single lane at both locations and is passable with care.
The Kilkenny-Freshford road is flooded in parts motorists should drive with care.
Numerous minor road closures are also in place in many parts of the County, and motorists are reminded to drive with care.
