Kilkenny County Council's Flood Emergency Response Plan continues to be active. It is likely that the Plan will be active until at least the end of the week.
River Levels.
River Nore Levels have receded in the past 24 hours as follows;
- River Nore (Kilkenny City) is 1m lower than the most recent peak experienced on 30/12/2015
- River Nore (Thomastown) is 800mm lower than levels which gave rise to flood events on the 30/12/2015 and 02/01/2014.
- River Nore (Inistioge) is 1m lower than levels which gave rise to flood events on the 30/12/2015 and 02/01/2014.
There is no inundation in either Thomastown and Inistioge at this point in time.
River Barrow Levels are continuously at high levels with only a 200mm drop since the peak on 02/01/2016. The Quay in Graiguenamanagh remains inundated and a pumping arrangement is protecting Lower Main Street. Pumping will continue today.
River Levels of River Suir remain high.
Clean Up
Vehicles/Personnel are being deployed today to assist property owners in Thomastown, Inistioge, Graiguenamangh and Freshford with the clean up.
Flooded Roads/Road Closures.
- Localised flooding persists on many areas of the road network , there is debris on roads and motorists are again urges to drive with care .
- Of particular note, temporary traffic lights are in place on the N24 west of Mooncoin as a result of flooding.
Road Closures Update
- The R700 from New Ross to Kilkenny will be opened in the next 30minutes.
- Main Street Graiguenamanagh remains open to traffic.
- Inistioge is now open to traffic.
- The R448 from Paulstown to Knocktoper has reopened.
- The Bleach Rd near Kilkenny City remains closed to traffic.
- The Annamult Rd at Bennettsbridge remains closed
- The Ardaloo Rd Threecastles(linking R693 Freshford Road and N77 Ballyragget Road) remains closed.
Multi Agency Response
County Council personnel (including Fire Services), Civil Defence Gardai and Army continue to liaise daily and the Army have been a key component of the Council's Response Team, filling/distributing sandbags and providing emergency response vehicles.
Kilkenny County Council will also be liaising with Carlow County Council today to share supervisory resources on the pumping systems in place on either bank of the River Barrow at Graiguenamanagh/Tinnahinch.
Safety Message
Pedestrians are advised to stay away from rivers and river Banks-rivers are swollen with strong current & river banks are very unstable
