Works are progressing on the Kilkenny Central Access Scheme Phase 2 to a point where it will necessitate restricted use on some of the roads to the Eastern Side of the Bridge.
It is proposed to restrict access throughout to local residents only on the lower part of Wolfe Tone Street, Michael Street and Greensbridge Street. No Through traffic will be permitted on these streets.
Closure Duration
10.30am on 4th October September 2016 to 7am 24th October 2016 Working Times 7am to 10pm
Works Involved
The works include the upgrading to provide new and improved road, carparking and pedestrian paths to high specification and the upgrading of existing service infrastructure include ESB, Gas, drainage and communications network. The existing overhead power lis and poles will also be removed. These works will considerably enhance the aesthetics and usability of the area.
The heavy works including breaking and rolling will be restricted to 6pm every evening and only light works such as paving and kerbing will continue after this time. By the end of the closure disruption will be minimised to the residents

Planned Diversion Routes
Primary Alternative Vehicular Route
The Primary Alternative Route for Traffic travelling from the Greensbridge Area will be via the New Road onto Castlecomer Road and to the Roundabout on John Street.

Local Access
Michael Street
Local Access only will be maintained for residents, business and schools of Michael Street from Wolfe Tone Street via a dedicated lane. This lane is not suitable for large vehicles and as it is travelling through the works there may be delays on occasion.
Alternative Access to St Johns School Access
Alternative vehicular access to St Johns School will be via John Quay as shown below.

Alternatively access for pedestrians can be obtained via a link footway from the Wolfe Tone Street carpark beside Johnstons funeral home as shown below.

Greensbridge and Bridge View Gardens
Access to Greensbridge street and Bridge View Development will be Via Greens Street/New road under traffic control
Primary alternative Pedestrian Route
Pedestrians can avoid the works by using the newly opened Peace Park beneath the bridge. Access to the peace Park will be from Greensbridge Street and Michael Street. The footway along Wolfe Tone Street to Michael Street will also remain open.
Emergency Services Diversion Route
Emergency vehicles will be able to utilise the route shown on the maps below in the event of an emergency. They will also be afforded passage through the works area.
