Severe Weather Response-Press Release at 7pm


The following is an update on the Severe Weather Response.

Safety Notice.


- Motorists should avoid travelling tonight and where a journey is absolutely necessary motorists should exercise great care and use main roads where possible.
- Many minor roads are still flooded and not all locations are signposted.

Road Closures.


The following Road Closures remain in place
- R704 from Mullinavat to New Ross
(alternative route via the N25)
- R700 from New Ross to Kilkenny
(alternative route via the N25 and M9 Motorway)
- R448 from Paulstown to Knocktopher
(alternative route is R711, the N10 to Danesfort -i.e. the old main route from Paultown to Kilkenny City Ring Road to Danesfort)
- Main Street Graignamanagh - no through traffic - local diversions in place
- Thomastown - no through traffic - local diversions in place
- Main Street Piltown
- Old N9 at Grannagh
- Bleach Rd near Kilkenny City
- & Numerous minor road closures are in place.

Roads recently re-Opened


- The Circular Rd in Kilkenny City
- The Rock Rd Inistioge

Care Required
- On the Waterford to Mooncoin Road at Aglish/Curraghamartin-The Road is severely flooded but is passable with care.

Sandbags


The Council assisted by Army & other staff continue to distribute sandbags to affected areas.

River Levels.


- The level of the Rivers Nore & Barrow have levelled off, however the Council remains concerned at the high tide situation at Inistioge which is expected at 9pm/9.30pm
