Exhibition: We’re all in this together

Press Release Press Release Press Release Press Release Press Release

22nd July - 19th August 2011

'We're all in this together' is an exhibition of print works in The Watergate Theatre from 22nd July to 19th August.

Celebrating the launch of Blackstack Studio, Kilkenny's new Fine Art Print Studio, is this inaugural exhibition featuring work by the five founding members. The show explores the range and possibilities of print as a contemporary art form. Showcasing an eclectic array of works, featuring artists Maeve Coulter, Sylvia Hemmingway, Emma Hogan, Alé Mercado and Aiseling Noone. From a diversity of disciplines, encompassing fine art, graphics, illustration and textiles, this exhibition is brought together by a shared love for printmaking.

Artist information:

Maeve Coulter is a Kilkenny based textile artist who originally trained as a printmaker. Her current work references the tradition of quilt-making. She re-uses old fabrics from everyday life that are charged with memories and combines them with stitch, collagraph and screen printing.

Sylvia Hemmingway lives and works in Co. Wexford. She has a B.A. (Hons) and a Masters in Fine Art from the National College of Art & Design, Dublin. She works in the mediums of print, painting, pastel, drawing and installation. Her work explores the many different aspects of an individual's identity.
Emma Hogan is an Art Director and Graphic Artist. She has trained in both Design and Fine Art and has worked extensively in London as a commercial artist. Now, back in Ireland, she is enjoying the medium of screen printing. Her work plays in the space of dreams and aspirations.

Ale Mercado is a talented advocate of a powerful and edgy style of illustration emerging from an alternative and underground art scene. Ale's work is very graphic and has a strong, dark and witty style. His illustrations have often been described as totally energetic, yet well organised - reflective of his 20 year career as a graphic designer and illustrator.

Aiseling Noone lives and works in Co. Wexford. She holds a Masters in Fine Art and a B.A. (Hons) in Fine Art Print from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. She also holds a diploma in Fashion Design and Pattern Making. Her art practice includes the disciplines of drawing, printmaking, painting, audio, video, photography and installation.

We are thrilled to announce a major creative coup for Kilkenny in the launch of Blackstack Studio, the new Fine Art Print Studio. Situated in the heart of the city, at 42 Parliament St, Blackstack Studio aims to promote the art of printmaking and support artists by providing intaglio and screen print facilities in the southeast. Part of a growing network of green studios worldwide, Kilkenny's new print studio will use environmentally sustainable printmaking methods. It will also provide outreach and education programmes such as workshops, lectures and demonstrations bringing the art of printmaking into the heart of the community. Developed in partnership with Kilkenny County Council Arts Office the studio has also been supported by the Crafts Council of Ireland.

During the Kilkenny Arts Festival the studio will also invite the public for print demos and short workshops, to experience the processes involved in fine art printmaking. Please visit www.facebook.com/blackstackstudio and www.blackstackstudio.com for more information.

Opening hours: Monday-Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 2pm-6pm, Sunday one hour prior to show
