ReCreate is a national social enterprise that takes end of line and surplus stock from businesses and redistributes them to their members such as early years settings, primary and post primary schools, 3rd level colleges, youth and art groups for creative activities. The concept is known as Creative Reuse which encourages the public to reuse materials that would normally be destined for landfill. ReCreate's mission is to inspire and influence creativity, curiosity and lateral thinking within all members of society and to enhance the capacity of the next generation to think outside the box.
ReCreate is continuing its quest to inspire curiosity and creativity by hosting an Open Day on February 26th in Kilkenny Education Centre from 12.30pm-6pm. Teachers, creative practitioners, educators and artists young and old are invited for a special day of hands-on experiences, sharing ideas, inspirations and methodologies around the creative benefits associated with reuse. Come and explore the wide range of tactile materials from ReCreate's 'Warehouse of Wonders' such as tubing, wool, foil and plastics that can open up new avenues of creative exploration and conversation in your school, group and community.
Because all their stock is donated or diverted from the waste process, ReCreate make a positive impact on our environment by re-distributing around 150 tonnes a year of materials for creative re-use. ReCreate's visit to Kilkenny is being sponsored by the Local Agenda 21 Fund and Kilkenny County Council. Bernadette Moloney, the Environmental Awareness Officer is delighted to promote ReCreate as the enterprise encourages re-use and prevents waste which are core objectives of the Southern Region Waste Management Plan which was adopted last May. It is hoped their visit will inspire artists and educators to think about waste in a different light and increase re-use rates across the county.
Those who attend the Open Day in February will be entered into a draw to win a ReCreate 'Teach the Teachers workshop' where ReCreate will send one of their artists along with lots of materials to 4 lucky winning groups to facilitate a tailored creative Reuse session. This is a unique opportunity to get involved in the exciting concept "make art not waste" as ReCreate continue its quest to inspire curiosity and creativity while caring for the environment.
Those interested in dropping in to meeting the ReCreate team on the 26th of February need to register for this free event by ringing the Kilkenny Education Centre, Seville Lodge, Callan Road, Kilkenny on 056- 7760200.
