Kilkenny County Council honoured at Repak Awards

Kilkenny County Council honoured at Repak Awards by WEEE Ireland Special Merit Award winner and Finalist in the WEEE Ireland Best WEEE & Battery Recycling Event Category

Kilkenny County Council were honoured at the Repak Awards during National Recycling Week in October 2011. WEEE Ireland, the Irish compliance scheme for electrical and battery recycling, selected Kilkenny County Council as a recipient of their Special Merit Award and as a finalist in the WEEE Ireland Best WEEE & Battery Recycling Event Category for their hard work during the year and participation in the WEEE Ireland Collection Programme.

Kilkenny County Council have been holding collection days with WEEE Ireland since 2007. The Kilkenny collection days are primarily focused in areas that do not have a recycling centre convenient to them. The collection days throughout Kilkenny have now become annual events, with Kilkenny County Council noticing a significant reduction in the amount of electrical waste being illegally dumped since the collections began. Eight collection days were held in the last 12 months with over 110 tonnes of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) collected.

WEEE Ireland would like to thank all of those involved in Kilkenny County Council for their dedication and commitment to keeping Kilkenny's villages and towns clean and free from electrical and battery waste.
