Environmental Education in Schools

Kilkenny Local Authority is delighted to work with schools that are interested in the Green School Programme, whether you are currently working towards your first green flag or a renewal flag. The Environmental Awareness Officer, Bernadette Moloney offers a wide range of services throughout the year including:

  • Parent/Teacher Annual Green Schools Information Seminar (Provisional Date 10th November 2010)
  • Advice and guidance to green school committees to keep schools on the right track either by school visits or on the phone
  • Talks to school groups on various topics; recycling, waste prevention, composting, water conservation and climate change
  • Facilitates spring school workshops by outside groups i.e the Waste Construction Workshop, Sustainable Energy Agency of Ireland Energy Guzzler Workshops, the Rubbish Monster Puppet Show
  • Organises tours of Dunmore Recycling Centre and Water Treatment Plants on request
  • Provide items such as composting units and clean up materials e.g. bags & gloves for the National Spring Clean.
  • On occasion can provide pens, pencils, yoyo's, pencil cases etc for school competition prizes
  • Provide resources such as posters & information leaflets and loan environmental themed DVDs/CD ROMs
