Johnstown Local Area Plan

Due to the enactment of the Planning and Development Act 2010 and its requirement to include a 'Core Strategy' in the Kilkenny County Development Plan, the current programme of Local Area Plans, focused mainly on zoning objectives, was suspended.

Proposed Variation 2 to the Kilkenny County Development 'Core Strategy' was published in May 2011. The Core Strategy will have significant effects in relation to population targets for the county, and in turn for Johnstown. As the Core Strategy has involved a reduction in zoned land across the county, it is not considered sustainable to continue preparing additional LAPs focused on zoning objectives. Other framework documents, or settlement boundaries may be considered for Johnstown and similar settlements, following monitoring and review of the implementation of the Core Strategy from now until the next County Development Plan in 2014.

Extension of period for receipt of submissions and Invitation to meet the writer of the plan and have your say!

Further to the previous notice regarding the preparation of a Local Area Plan for Johnstown, submissions or observations to the LAP may be made, in writing, to the Director of Services, Planning Department, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny or by email to localareaplans@kilkennycoco.ie.

The original closing date of 30th April has been extended to the 28th May. All written and email submissions/observations received on or before 5 pm on the 28th May 2010 will be considered by the County Council prior to the making of a draft Local Area Plan.

The Forward Planning team will be available to meet on Thursday, May 6th in Johnstown to discuss the upcoming Local Area Plan. The team will be available from 4 - 8 pm in the St. Kieran's Hall. This is a drop-in event, and no appointment is necessary. If you wish, you may make an appointment in advance by ringing 056-7794234 to speak to Caitriona.

Notice is hereby given that Kilkenny County Council intends to prepare a Local Area Plan for Johnstown.

Submissions or observations regarding the preparation of a Local Area Plan may be made, in writing, to the Director of Services, Planning, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny from 22nd March until 5 pm on Friday 30th April, 2010 or you can make submissions by email to localareaplans@kilkennycoco.ie

All written and email submissions/observations received on or before the 30th April 2010 will be considered by the County Council prior to the making of a draft Local Area Plan.

Habitat Assessment

A Habitat Assessment will shortly be carried out in Johnstown. A number of these assessments are being carried out in towns and villages in County Kilkenny where Local Area Plans are due to be made. The assessments will assist with highlighting and reviewing the natural heritage of the areas and will be an input to the plan-making process. An information leaflet is available here:
