M8 Cullahill to Urlingford Motorway Scheme 2004
THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT ACT, 2000.

KILKENNY COUNTY COUNCIL
LAOIS COUNTY COUNCIL
M8 Cullahill to Urlingford Motorway Scheme 2004
(part of the M8/N8 Cullahill to Cashel Proposed Road Development)
Kilkenny County Council, on its own behalf and in pursuance of an agreement made under Section 59 of the Local Government Act, 1955 and approved by the National Roads Authority under Section 14 (8) of the Roads Act, 1993, on behalf of Laois County Council has made the M8 Cullahill to Urlingford Motorway Scheme 2004 (part of the M8/N8 Cullahill to Cashel Proposed Road Development) under section 47 of the Roads Act, 1993 which it proposes to submit to An Bord Pleanála ("the Board") for approval. If the Scheme is approved by the Board, Kilkenny County Council will then be authorised to provide a motorway.
The Motorway will commence in the townland of Oldtown, Cullahill, County Laois and terminate in the townland of Islands in Urlingford, County Kilkenny, as illustrated on the accompanying map (the Motorway is coloured blue). It will be 2 x 2-lane and will have a grade separated junction at Urlingford linked to the existing N8. Bridges and local road realignments will be provided to separate the local road network from the Motorway. The major construction elements of the scheme will be fencing, drainage, earthworks, bridge structures, paving, kerbing, signing, lining, lighting, service diversions, landscaping and
environmental works.
Approval of the scheme will authorise Kilkenny County Council to compulsorily acquire certain land (or substratum of land) and certain rights in relation to land, to extinguish certain public and private rights of way, to prohibit or restrict direct access to the Motorway from adjoining land.
A copy of the scheme and of the map referred to in it may be inspected between 7th April and 12th May, 2004 (excluding Bank Holiday weekends) at the following locations:

The Board may approve the scheme with or without modifications or it may refuse to approve it. However, before making its decision, the Board must arrange for the holding of an oral hearing into all matters relating to the scheme, consider any written objections to the scheme which have been made to it and not withdrawn and consider the report and any recommendations of the person holding the oral hearing. Public notice of the oral hearing will be given at a later date.
Land owners and occupiers referred to in the scheme and persons affected by the proposed revocation or modification of planning permissions specified in the scheme will receive individual written notice.
