Referendum to take place on Friday 8th of March 2024

Referendum to amend Article 41 of the Constitution to provide for a wider concept of Family; and delete Article 41.2 of the Constitution to remove text on the role of women in the home, and insert a new Article 42B to recognise family care.

The Referendum will take place on Friday 8th March, 2024.

If you are not registered and wish to vote you can register online at www.checktheregister.ie or you can download the ERF1 application form which you can complete and return to the Franchise Department, Kilkenny County Council, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny, R95 A39T.

The last date for the receipt of applications to the Register of Electors is Tuesday 20th February 2024.

Postal Voters List & Special Voters List

Provision has been made under the Electoral Acts for the preparation of the Postal Voters and Special Voters lists in respect of particular categories of voters.

Who can apply for a postal vote?

  • Living at home and cannot attend at a polling station to vote due to an illness or disability.
  • Unable to vote at your polling station, due to circumstances of occupation or education.
  • Whole-time member of the defence forces. Members who live in military barracks may be registered either at the barracks or at their home address.
  • An Irish diplomat posted abroad, and your spouse; and are registered at your home address in Ireland.
  • A member of the Garda Síochána. You have the option of being registered as ordinary electors or as postal voters. If you are granted a postal vote you may only vote by post.
  • Unable to vote at your polling station due to circumstances of your detention in a prison pursuant to an order of a court.
  • If publishing your name and address would jeopardise your safety or that of your household, apply to be an anonymous elector. If you are recorded as an “anonymous elector” your name and address will not be available for inspection. You will be included by a reference only and you will vote by post and not attend your polling station on polling day.

Special Voters List:

Apply if you live in a nursing home or similar institution and can't attend a polling station due to illness or disability.

How to apply:

Visit ChecktheRegister.ie and download the SV1 Form for special voters or PV2 Form for postal votes due to illness or disability, or PV7 Form for anonymous voting.  Forms can also be obtained from Franchise Section, Kilkenny County Council by emailing franchise@kilkennycoco.ie

Complete the form and return it by post to Franchise Section, Kilkenny County Council, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny, R95 A39T or email it to franchise@kilkennycoco.ie.
