Kilkenny County Council Awards €127,000 in Amenity Grants

At its meeting held this week, Kilkenny County Council awarded €127,000 to over 150 residents associations, tidy towns groups, sporting organisations and community groups around the county to assist them undertake a wide variety of small scale amenity projects in their areas.

The main objective of the Council's Amenity Grants Scheme is to encourage and aid small-scale works to improve the local environment and community involvement in the upkeep, maintenance and enjoyment of public amenities.

The Amenity Grants awarded will help voluntary and not-for-profit groups in towns and villages right across Kilkenny to undertake a range of works from landscaping, maintenance and development of open spaces and the provision of street and outdoor furniture to small-scale improvement works (e.g. painting) and the development of sporting facilities.

These works combined will help to continue to contribute to the overall amenity of County Kilkenny, and help enhance the County's reputation as a quality place to live. The scheme is available annually through an open application process and as of this year, the awards are based on the size of estates covered by residents associations and by the population size of towns and villages covered by tidy towns and community groups.

Welcoming the allocation of Amenity Grants, Cllr David Fitzgerald, Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council said:
"I'm delighted to see that every group that applied for funding this year have been awarded funding in a fair and equitable manner. The funding provided through the Amenity Grant Scheme helps a diverse range of groups the length and breadth of County Kilkenny and is a contribution from the Council to acknowledge the huge voluntary effort input by hundreds of local people in improving their local amenities for the enjoyment of all."
