Minister Bat O Keefe vistits Freshford Fire Station

On Thursday 2nd February 2006 the Junior Minister for the Department of the Environment, Heritage, and Local Government Batt O'Keeffe made a visit to the existing fire station in Freshford that is soon to be demolished. Present at this visit were John McGuinness, T.D.; Councillor Pat Millea; Councillor Pat Fitzpatrick; Councillor Catherine Connery; Assistant Chief Fire Officer John Collins; Assistant Fire Officer Killian Hennessy and members of Freshford fire brigade led by Station Officer Frankie Brennan.

The Junior Minister spoke to the fire crew and praised them for their work in the community in relation to public safety. He also held a very informative question and answer session with the fire crew.

He confirmed that his department has approved the necessary funding for the new fire station and new fire engine for Freshford. Work on the new fire station is to commence at the end of the month and the new fire engine is to be delivered at the end of the year. The fire brigade in Freshford thanked the Minister for his visit and all the councillors attending and showing their support for the fire service.
