Variation no. 1 of the Kilkenny City & Environs Development Plan 2014 - 2020, adopted by the Elected Members of Kilkenny Co. Co. on 31st July 2015, included an objective "To provide for park and walk facilities for car and bus/coach parking at a site or sites in close proximity to the Abbey Creative Quarter Masterplan area to service both the masterplan area and the city centre generally taking into account the mobility management plan for the city" (Objective 3N)

In order to advance this objective, Roadplan Consulting were engaged by Kilkenny Co. Co. in 2016 to identify and assess options for the provision of parking facilities to serve the implementation of the Abbey Creative Quarter Masterplan and the city centre generally. In addition, they were also required to identify potential new bus parking facilities in proximity to the Medieval Mile, in particular in proximity to St Canices Cathedral and other attractions at the Northern end of the Medieval Mile.

The attached Parking Options Report outlines the findings of this study and identifies parking options to achieve these objectives, with both temporary and long term options identified.

The future implementation of any of the proposals outlined in the Parking Options Report will be subject to Planning, including Public Consultation.
