National Spring Clean Kicks Off Again

An Taisce resumed its National Spring Clean this week and volunteers across the country are eager to finish their community clean ups, with many postponed due to the Covid 19 restrictions in early spring.

The Department of Communications, Climate Change and Environment conveyed their best wishes to all volunteers involved in the National Spring Clean and reminded all participants to adhere to the HSE guidelines relating to public gatherings under COVID 19 restrictions. Participants are also reminded that all discarded PPE should be treated as hazardous waste.

Kilkenny County Council will continue to support the National Spring Clean campaign by assisting volunteers with litter disposal as it considers the National Spring Clean a great initiative to instil pride into local neighbourhoods. Frank Stafford, Senior Engineer with the Council's Environment Section commented "In the past few months, community spirit has been abundant as people came together to look out for each other and there was a noticeable rise in walkers and cyclists in neighbourhoods across the county, now is a time to spruce up the neighbourhood and collect any litter so the county looks its best for the summer".

For those not yet registered, registrations can be completed online via www.nationalspringclean.org and anyone seeking assistance with litter removal is asked to speak with the Environment Section on 056-7794470 before heading out to complete a litter pick as volunteers need to be aware of the protocols in place regarding the collection and final disposal of litter collected by the volunteers.
