Fire Incident at GLANBIA Whey plant, Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny October 2005

At five minutes past one on the afternoon of Sunday 23rd October 2005 Kilkenny Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire incident in the Whey Plant at GLANBIA plant, Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny.

The initial area was heavily smoke logged, shortly after arriving at the scene teams of fire-fighters from both Freshford and Castlecomer Brigades entered the building in offensive mode wearing Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus (CABA) and carrying numerous lines of delivery to extinguish the fire. All staff had been evacuated safely.

At the height of operations there were over 30. fire fighting personnel on site from Freshford, Castlecomer, Kilkenny City and Urlingford Fire Brigades. there was 5 no. Fire engines, 1 no. Emergency Tender Command and Control Vehicle and 1no. High Reach Platform. In addition there was 2no. ambulances on-site. There was no reports of any injuries The incident brought to a close at 19:49 hrs. Kilkenny City & County Rostered Senior Fire Officer on-scene was Killian John Hennessy.
