Parking Management
Kilkenny County Council has undertaken a major review of parking management in Kilkenny City. This is the first review in over a decade and has been undertaken to address concerns raised regarding availability of public parking in Kilkenny City.
This review considered issues highlighted to Kilkenny Municipal District as listed below
■ To improve availability of parking
■ To manage car parking more efficiently
■ To provide for greater availability of accessible bays
■ To ensure loading bays are available for loading/unloading of goods
■ To facilitate greater access to parking for local residents
■ To resolve safety issues associated with on-street queuing for car parks
■ To promote greater use of sustainable transport modes
The following measures have been adopted by Kilkenny Municipal District to resolve the above issues and to ensure an equitable parking system that caters for residents, visitors and the continued economic viability of Kilkenny City Centre.
These measure will be effective from Monday, 15th January, 2024

Amend Parking Charges | A new parking charge regime is being introduced that will be more equitable and improve availability of public parking spaces. See table of new parking charges regime. |
Prevent illegal parking in Loading Bays | To ensure adequate loading facilities are available to cater for local businesses |
Facilitate Set Down only on High Street. Parking of private vehicles prohibited between 8am - 7pm Set Down only areas are to facilitate passengers being dropped off after which the vehicle moves on | This is to continue to facilitate people being dropped of on High Street while ensuring greater availability of loading bays for delivery of goods. |
Provide time limit on stay in some accessible bays | To ensure greater availability of accessible bays to permit holders |

Kilkenny County Council will be reviewing Parking Bye-Laws and will consider other areas that can benefit from effective and efficient management of parking.
