Roads Cleared and Update on Clearance Work

Roads cleared Update 10pm Sunday

Update as of 10pm Sunday 4th March 2018

Castlecomer Area

Most roads in the Castlecomer Central and West areas are now clear apart from some roads on higher ground.

There are still significant problems in Castlewarrnen, Johnswell, Muckalee, Barnafea, Crutt and Moyhora areas - 3 extra loading shovels will be dispatched there in the morning to concentrate on these areas.

Piltown Area

Still many local roads on higher ground that have to be cleared. Numerous footpaths still to be cleared in urban areas.

R704 from Mullinavatt to New Ross, is passable with extreme care as it is narrow in some places.

South Kilkenny - Piltown

The following is an update on road conditions and works carried out/ongoing in the Piltown Area;

N24: The road is in poor condition with insufficient clearway for 2 vehicles to pass in many places. Two gritters are now in the area and they will be giving priority to clearing this road.

N25: The road was in poor condition this morning. A local contractor drove ahead of a council gritter clearing the road in both directions and the road is now in reasonable condition. A number of vehicles were abandoned on the road in front of the Rhu Glen impeding 2 way traffic. These vehicles are being removed by a local breakdown service this afternoon. The road will be treated again this afternoon by council gritters.

N29: The road was in poor condition this morning. A local contractor drove ahead of a council gritter clearing the road in both directions and the road is now in reasonable condition.The road will be treated again this afternoon by council gritters.

R704: This road has not been treated for the past couple of days and is impassable. There is a council gritter on site and they are awaiting the arrival of a contractor around 2pm before commencing to clear the road.

The Machinery Yard has sent two additional vehicles to the area, one with a plough and the other with a gritter. These two vehicles will work in tandem to clear roads in the Mullinavat and Kilmacow areas and will also assist local crews in clearing roads in the Ferrybank and Slieverue areas.

Local crews have been working in the areas of Glenmore, Ferrybank, Slieverue, Fiddown, Piltown, Owning, Kilmaganny & Windgap, some with the assistance of local contractors. Salting of priority 3 routes has been carried out where possible but deep snow is preventing this in places.

A number of farmers and people with machinery are also voluntarily clearing roads in many areas.
