Community Climate Action Fund - Phase 2

Kilkenny County Council is delighted to welcome the announcement by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, a Phase 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme.

Kilkenny County Council have been given an allocation for Phase 2 of €511,000 for successful Kilkenny communities to take climate action at a local level.

We are excited to announce that Phase 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme is opening for applications on the 22nd October 2025 to the 17th December 2025at 16:00pm.

This programme will support community based projects in Kilkenny and is aimed at tackling climate change through innovative, local and impactful actions under the following 5 themes:

 

  • Community Energy - Projects under this theme would reduce the climate impact on buildings in communities by using less energy, utilising renewable energy and avoiding heat loss. i.e. upgrades of heating, lighting, external doors, windows, insulation, solar panel installation etc.
  • Travel - Projects under this theme would contribute to a reduction to travel related emissions and encourage sustainable travel. i.e. bike racks and bike repair stations etc.
  • Shopping & Recycling - Projects under this theme would increase the variety and number of recycling facilities in the local community and promote initiatives aimed at reducing, reusing, repurposing, and recycling. i.e. swap shops, community libraries, water refill stations etc.
  • Food & Waste - Projects under this theme would reduce food waste. i.e. community gardens and allotments, community composters, rain water harvesting etc.
  • Local Climate and Environmental Action - Projects under this theme would take a holistic approach to managing local environment i.e. Promotion of wildlife conservation and planting for pollinators etc.
