Introduction of the 3rd Bin for Food Waste
Kilkenny County Council advertised in July 2016 that 17 urban areas with populations over 500 persons where obliged to separate out their food waste from their household refuse. It has since been decided nationally to introduce the 3rd bin for food waste at a slower pace in order for the waste industry to co-ordinate the distribution of 3rd bins to their customers. With this recent decision, now only 6 areas in County Kilkenny need to separate out their food waste from normal refuse; these are the 6 largest population areas in the county, two include the environs of Co. Wexford (New Ross) and Co. Waterford (Ferrybank). The other 4 urban centres are Callan, Graignamanagh, Kilkenny City and Thomastown. There are defined geographical areas for each urban area, to determine if your household is within a 3rd bin zone, please refer to maps below outlining each of the six areas.

Ferrybank (Co. Kilkenny)
If your house is located in a 3rd bin for food waste, the leaflet below outlines three options available to you regarding the separation of your food waste.
