The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has today announced €75million for 24 landmark regeneration projects in rural communities across the country.

Thomastown is set to benefit from this announcement with funding of €2.5 million approved for a new modern public library and community facilities.

Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr. Andrew McGuinness, welcomed the announcement saying: “This is wonderful news for Thomastown and will provide a fantastic boost for the area.  This project will play an important role in the Council’s continued focus on supporting the growth of our County Towns.”

This development will further compliment the works being carried out to the public realm in Thomastown on Logan Street and Low Street and the upgrade of The Quay Carpark.  In addition, the Council are about to appoint Contractors to commence works on the Session House development to transform it into the new home for the School of Jewellery in partnership with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland. 

The combination of this projects will result in significant investment in Thomastown.

Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere, Chairman of Municipal District of Callan/Thomastown, on hearing the good news for the Thomastown said:  “It is an exciting development for Thomastown.  The transformation of the Library will result in a friendly warm space for learning and creativity.  I commend all involved in successful securing this funding which the communities in Thomastown will reap the benefits of for years to come.”
