POETRY WRITING FOR BEGINNERS- THE ARCHIVE OF MEMORY
In this course we will explore how our own sensual memories can become contemporary poems, an evocative smell, a daily ritual, objects, nature, places, and people. We will read contemporary poets and poems, for example; Seamus Heaney's 'Blackberry-Picking', Paula Meehan's 'Well' or Raymond Carver's 'A Haircut' and see how the everyday stuff in our lives can be infused with a power that slows life down and helps us to reflect on the sensual detail, humour, stillness, wonder and beauty in our own lives and the lives of others.
From a theatrical family, Lani O' Hanlon is an experienced group facilitator, dance and movement artist/therapist, author of Dancing the Rainbow, Holistic Well-Being through Movement (Mercier Press 2007) She has an MA in creative writing from Lancaster University and has studied fiction with The Stinging Fly. She received a travel and training award in 2017 from the National Arts Council to complete a first novel

JOURNALLING FOR BEGINNERS
Why keep a journal? So many reasons. To discover the writer within you. To keep a record for the future of how your life unfolds. To get to know the different parts of yourself. You'll discover these and many more on the Journalling for Beginners course. Over the six weeks, you will cover such exercises as the character sketch, captured moments, time capsules, unsent letters, guided imagery and dream logs. And on the way, you will uncover many things about yourself.
Tara Heavey read modern English at Trinity College Dublin. She has had five novels published internationally, in countries such as Croatia, Spain, Germany, Holland, England, Australia and the U.S. She has also had short stories published, together with various articles in the national press.
